Bigelow Creek Reforestation Plan
In 2021 our Association entered into a contract with Genesee County Soil & Water Conservation District to clear and replant six acres along the Bigelow Creek Corridor from Griswold Road to the lower parking lot in the Hollow.
Phase One required us to remove down, dead, and unsafe trees within the work zones. We were also required to remove the faux Honeysuckle, various vines and wild rose. Our membership cut vines from the live trees, trimmed and removed the evasives from along the stream bank by hand. We burned piles of brush and decaying wood.
During Phase Two, we were trained by Soil & Water staff, and then assigned to plant up to 220 seedling trees per acre. This was an excellent opportunity for Boy Scouts, members, campers, and volunteer groups to adopt a zone and support the Association.
While our contract with Cenesee County Soil & Water has eneded we continue to plant new trees, redistribute trees that sprout too close together to thrive and actively manage our forest.
